The thesis can be between 1-3 sentences in length but must be located at the end of the introduction and must clearly state the topic and mediatory claim. Body: approx. 6 paragraphsThe number of body paragraphs in this essay depends on the number of points you want to make about your topics. On average, for the length and style of this essay, there will be between 4-6 body paragraphs.Part 1 (approx. 2 paragraphs) of the body should focus on one point of viewPart 2 (approx. 2 paragraphs) of the body should focus on the other point of viewPart 3 (approx. 2 paragraphs) of the body should focus on the mediatory stance, explain what the compromise is, why (the reasons) it is necessary and good, and what the overall goal or outlook of the compromise is. Draw on parts 1 and 2 of the body to help support your points. Although additional source material is not necessary in the mediation (part 3), it can be helpful. Be sure the first 1-3 sentences of each body paragraph clearly specify the controlling idea of each paragraph (this is called the topic sentences of each body paragraph). Each paragraph must focus on only 1 controlling idea; otherwise, it risks being an unfocused, disorganized paragraph or essay. Conclusion: 1-2 paragraphsSynthesis, wrap-up of essay’s main pointsLook back at your introduction.
