Writer’s choice

The Origin Document is an opportunity for you to account for the origin and development of your work, including reflection on the impact of workshopping and reading (on the course and beyond), and a projection of what your manuscript would look like if developed to completion. In essence, it is a chance for you to walk the examiners through where your idea/theme/style, etc., have come from (reading, experiences, inspirations, etc.) and how you came to find yourself making that into a book; how the workshopping process and other factors, such as reading on and beyond the course, have impacted your writing; and what’s next – what you think your finished book would look like.

Origin Document: in which you account for:

• the origins, formation, and development of your book-in-progress, including details of any editorial decisions made in light of the work-shopping and supervision process;
• influences on the work, including an articulation of how your reading and research – on the course and beyond – have helped you form a critical understanding of your chosen genre and how this research has enabled you to frame your own creative work in a broader cultural context;
• a projection of what the finished manuscript might look like if worked to completion and where it would sit in the market.
This should be 1,000 words in length (in addition to, not as part of, the Creative Dissertation limit).
