Writer’s choice
Select a topic that reflects your passions and/or will support your health career goals. You may choose to develop a plan based on an actual project if you are currently working in health care or find a topic of interest perhaps from the social determinants of health forums above and generate an idea that could support the Healthy People 2020 goals. You can be creative here. The point is to gain experience in developing a plan. It may be realistic or it may not be all that feasible to set into motion. Feel free to think big, have fun, and explore!! Either way, keep the writing concise so that it is easy for you and potentially others to access the information easily. In other words, write it to keep your audience engaged and motivated to support your idea. Feel free to reach out to me if you would like to discuss your idea before committing to it. I will give you constructive feedback along the way too.
We will follow a general outline. Most strategic plans follow similar key sections. Your specific idea may end up requiring more comprehensive details in some aspects of the plan development than others. There is no right or wrong way to develop a plan, just make sure it includes the essential elements necessary to move your idea forward and it is easy for your intended audience to follow and stay engaged.
This week’s paper should be 2-3 content pages (APA style double spaced, Times New Roman 12 font), and will include a SWOT or Polarity management table (tables are single-spaced – Word is best for creating a table). The assignments should include a separate cover page and reference page (4-5 pages total). This week’s paper will also include the following elements of a strategic plan:
Mission statements for both your plan and discuss how it relates to or supports your organization’s mission. Also, include a Healthy People 2020 goal(s) in addition to or in lieu of an organizational mission.
Vision statements for both your plan and how it relates to or supports your organization and/or HP2020 goal.
A brief summary of the situation and why you think your idea is needed. Be persuasive and include highlights of captivating data, narrative storytelling, observations, etc. Make it relatable to the current situation and the need for change.
Include one of the following analysis tools in your paper and provide a brief explanation of the content and a summary of your interpretation of the information revealed in the process: SWOT tool for analyzing new initiatives
Polarity Management tool for analyzing ongoing dilemmas
These tools do not need to be validated by research or evidence, simply provide your thoughts and insights. Typically, these would be developed within focus groups to solicit a variety of ideas and perspectives. Include any supporting evidence in the summary of the situation section and simply identify the point in your model.
Identify your Goals or Objectives, at least one main Goal, and no more than four total objectives. Consider how you plan to measure success for each objective. Structure each objective so that it can be measured. We will develop more structured outcome measures in Week 5 – Data Analysis, Benchmarking, Forecasting & Predicting.
