Module Two, students will continue to explore nursing research and its components and will build upon Module One, where we learned about history, theory, practice and research as ways of knowing in nursing. In this module you will learn about the importance of the PICO question and how to develop your PICO question to assist you in answering your chosen topic of interest. Gaining an understanding of the development of research and the process involved will allow for an understanding of how to find relevant research.
During Module One, you chose a topic of interest. During this week you will look at questions to answer through the PICO method.
The PICO format is used to help practitioners develop well-rounded questions:
P: Population or Patient (What are the characteristics of the patients?)
I: Intervention, influence, or exposure (What are the interventions of interest?)
C: Comparison (Component of interest?)
O: Outcome (What are the consequences we are interested in?)
