Writer’s choice
One of the reasons why I find The Farewell fascinating is because of how it uses lying: we have a situation in which information is kept from the person who is affected the most by it (the grandmother). But I also think we’d be wrong to say that this movie demonstrates simply that “lying is bad.” I think it’s way more complex than that!
So, what do you think of how this movie represents lying? Does it show that lying is a form of caring for another person, or does it have a more negative representation?
