For your persuasive speech you will be required to create a policy argument. However, to make sure we understand all types of questions, please complete the following.
Generate 1 proposition for a question of fact and a question of value.
Next, create 2 propositions for a question of policy. Again, you will use a question of policy when you design your persuasive speech. Post which policy idea is your first choice for your persuasive speech and why you feel it would make for an engaging persuasive speech.
A few tips for the discussion forum in unit 5 propositions:
1. A proposition is a proposal. Don’t write propositions as a question but instead write it as a statement telling us your position.
WRONG: SHOULD WE HAVE YEAR ROUND SCHOOL? RIGHT: THE STATE OF NJ BOE SHOULD ADOPT YEAR ROUND SCHOOLING FOR ALL K-12 STUDENTS.
2. Propositions should include three things 1) a who 2) a should or should not 3) a what
EXAMPLE: THE STATE OF NJ BOE (THAT IS MY WHO. YOUR WHO IS WHO WOULD BE IN THE POSITION OF POWER TO MAKE THE NEEDED CHANGE PROPOSED) SHOULD (SHOULD OR SHOULD NOT, I DECIDED ON SHOULD FOR THIS ONE EXAMPLE) ADOPT YEAR ROUND SCHOOLING FOR ALL K-12 STUDENTS (THAT IS MY WHAT -YEAR ROUND SCHOOL).
Please make sure policy cases are writing this way. Include a who, should or should not, and a what. Do not write a question but instead take a stance.
