skeleton argument (Advocacy)
The skeleton arguments supposed to be on a man A4 paper indicating the arguments for both grounds of appeal.
This is a written outline of the
respective parties case. It is an outline of the arguments presented for a moot and on the written submissions. In a moot court.
●The skeleton argument is first piece of advocacy that the judge sees from an advocate.
●The skeleton should introduce the judge to issues that arise for determination at the moot; and
●summarise briefly, but persuasively, all of the authorities on which you seek to rely.
●Skeleton = A brief statement of your three key submissions (arguments); and your supporting authorities (sources).
2. Format
Skeleton arguments should be:
●One side of A4
●Font type: Times new Roman,
●Font Size: 12
●Font Colour: Black print
Skeleton argument authorities (sources)
NOTE: A maximum of 3 case authorities (or other relevant primary legal source) not including those mentioned in the moot problem; and 2 secondary sources (books, journals Law Commission Reports etc.).
The layout of a skeleton argument should follow this arrangement
●The judge will have a copy of your skeleton argument and have the sources you are referring to accessible to them at the moot
The example skeleton argument is only on one ground but however for this one it is supposed to be fit into one A4 paper for both grounds of Appeal.
