i need this paper to be an analytic research paper so didnt no if on “type of paper” to put agrumentative essay or research essay
It is a common misconception that a research paper is merely an assemblage of collected information on
a topic. Research papers, in fact, need to have strong arguments that are supported by the information
rather than dictated by it.
For this essay, it is your job to propose a solution to a current perspective on a social, economic, or
political problem or need in our society. Further, this essay must focus on how this problem is currently
being addressed through policy or practice, is there action being undertaken. Is there a solution
underway? Why or why not?
The aim of this argument is positive and constructive: it is your goal, then, to convince readers to
solve this common problem in a particular way, to call them to action. This type of argumentation
assumes that, in order to get your reader to consider a solution it is necessary to reduce their sense of
threat. Hence, argumentation becomes an effort not to defeat an opponent but to bridge differences by
finding or creating common ground.
Where to begin:
When you write a proposal argument, you must analyze a subject about which there is disagreement, and
you must take a stand (or position) on it. A good proposal does two things: it defines a problem and
argues for a particular solution. This requires you to be directly engaged in writing for a specific
audience. You must construct an argument, giving reasons and support, while considering the objections
and questions of your reader. Proposals go further than an argument in that they urge your reader to take
some sort of action (they are persuasive). Whether or not your reader will agree with your solution will
depend on the strength of your argument.
This essay must be very specific and highly arguable. A good way to start this research paper is to
think about the social, political, and/or economic movements, conflicts, and policies we have discussed
in class and to explore the theories and publications on said topic. There are MANY options out there, so
be creative and choose something that really interests you.
Need a work cited and and Annotated bibliography
