MUSC 206 Final Project Prompt and Rubric
FORMAT:
an essay style paper (Word limit: around 1500-1700 with bibliography and citations);
TOPIC: There is no restriction for your topic. As far as you choose a musical phenomenon, a musical piece, or a musical figure within China, Korea and Japan, that will be acceptable. However, please keep in mind that you have to have your theme, and also to present this within a specific thematic framework. Do not choose a topic that is too broad. For example, if you choose to write about K-pop, that would be too broad: you have to be specific about a particular aspect of K-pop. The more specific is the better. For example “Gender politics in Kim Gun-mo’s ‘Wrongful Encounter’”. Once you have chosen something very specific, you will still need to give a brief overview of K-pop during the 90s. So start from a narrow focus, and then you will be able to see more clearly how to make your project.
I will particularly focus on the following points in grading:
Feasibility of your topic (15 points) and creativity of your choice (5 points);
The depth and breadth of the research (30 points);
Clear presentation (coherent organization, strong/persuasive argument, presentation of your understanding) (30 points);
Clear presentation of your findings in your conclusion (15 points);
How insightful and reflective the whole work is (5 points).
