How St. Augustine joined the Catholic Church; Cases for & against Christian ethics of agape love

Our task is twofold:
First, to give an account of the chief hurdles from the Hebrew bible (precepts such as polygamy, circumcision, injunctions to kill the Amalekites, and animal sacrifices) that enabled Augustine to overcome this hurdle, and hence (later on) to be able to join the Catholic Church. Explain the various steps that the strategy involves, distinctions that are made, claims set forth, arguments made (maximum 2 pages);
Second, to make as strong a case as you can for the (supposed) consistency and possibility of adhering to a universal Christian ethics of agape love and at the same time accepting customs such as the relevant precepts (maximum 2 pages); and
third, to make as strong a case as you can against the consistency and possibility of adhering to a universal Christian ethics of agape love and at the same time accepting customs such as the relevant precepts (maximum 2 pages).
