Data Visualizations – Bad Graphs (excel)?
December 16th, 2022
We all know the idiom: “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Similarly, data visualizations can be used to quickly communicate the important aspects of data analysis. But like most tools, they can be misused. In other words, there are bad graphs. Some are bad because they contain errors such as incorrect data. Others are just too complicated to understand. But some are misleading, either intentionally or through poor design practices.
Search the internet for articles, either popular or academic, that contain data visualizations you believe are “bad” graphs. Explain why the visualization is bad and what you would do to improve it, as well as how the author of the original article misused it. Be sure to insert a copy of the image in your post and cite the source. Include a reference to an authoritative source that supports your rationale as well as a reference to your chosen article.
