Buddhism and Descartes Paper

How are both the Buddha and Descartes critical of the body and knowing through the senses? While they have very different approaches to the process of enlightenment, they both remain wary of relying on the body/senses for knowledge, enlightenment, fulfillment, etc. Compare/contrast both Buddhism and Cartesian philosophy on the body/mind distinction and the process of knowing. You are welcome to compare/contrast them on other additional topics but these are the required ones. You can certainly bring Hume in but you need to at least use Descartes/Buddhism.

Requirements:

– Consult the writing philosophy papers document.

– At least 2 full pages long (can be longer), double spaced, times new roman, max. 1 inch margins

– Integrate both books Meditations on First Philosophy by Rene Descartes and The Dhammapada by the Buddha : integrate at least 2 quotes from each source and explain them in your own words. Be sure to situate the quotes and cite them using proper MLA format (page number and author’s last name)

– No works cited needed unless you refer to something other than the above required texts

– No secondary sources/ just the primary sources.

– A main thesis that explains the how, why, and what.

– An introduction that has your thesis, body paragraphs, and a conclusion

– Be sure to explicitly compare/contrast between the two.
