The concept and practice of brand activism has gained momentum in recent times and many brands are now taking a stance on social issues. Brand Activism consists of business efforts to promote, impede, or direct social, political, economic, and/or environmental reform with the desire to promote or impede improvements in society.
“Today, companies need to participate in brand activism or else they lose relevance and / or may cease to survive due to severe backlash from stakeholders.”
Critically evaluate the above statement in relation to how brands should respond to societal activism and propose recommendations that brands need to adopt to navigate this complex issue.
