Art history essay (Choose 2 artworks (not in the book) by 2 different artists from the text book)
Try to choose two artists that you believe have an interesting, thought provoking, or important relationship.
Points to cover:
1) Research the artworks. Answer: when it was made (within what context), for what reasons?; with what techniques? (old, traditional, or new and innovative). What is special about it? How does it fit into the history of art?
2) Compare similarities and differences in form, content, style and purpose/function.
3) Compare and Contrast the two artworks, come to specific conclusions. Do not list differences without meaning.
4) Use other examples of similar art or art by the same person or culture to support your connections and statements.
Content consideration (ideas & suggestions)
Brief biographical information can be helpful, but this is not a biographical essay. Remember, your opinion matters, but only as it relates to analytical reading of form, content, and intention.
Consider the political, economic, anthropological, religious, social, or philosophical developments of the time.
Find good quotes and use them, it’s very informative and helpful in framing arguments, but use only the parts of the quote that are best.
