6.4 Assignment: My City- Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) in the “Real World”
In this final workshop, we are examining intergovernmental relations, debt administration and budget management. In this assignment, students will examine each of these through the lenses of their selected city.
Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:
Discuss the purpose of intergovernmental relations in terms of financing public services.

Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
Review Chapters 5 and 6 in The Politics of Public Budgeting.
Research on your own what IGR looks like in the city you selected in Workshop One.
Write a 5-7 paragraph paper that addresses the following points:
Introduction to IGR in your selected city
Identify and describe one project where your city embraced intergovernmental relations as a way to accomplish a goal.
Give the history.
Explain what the project is and the costs associated with it.
Explain the impetus behind the IGR cooperation or coordination. For example, was the project initiated for financial or political reasons?
Your assignment should also:
Respect the stated paragraph limit.
Follow all conventions of academic writing as presented in the Academic Writing Visual.
Cite the Rubin textbook, evidenced by in-text citations. Include a reference list of the sources you used.
