Complete the following critical application activities in sequential order. Activity 1, 2, and 3 each end with a series of clinical application questions. Use the content from the scenario in each activity to respond to the questions. These activities replicate the decision-making process required during a full shift for an RN. In Activity 4, you will use the information from Activity 1, 2, and 3 to create an end-of-shift report for the oncoming nurse using the I-SBAR-R format.
Activity 1 starts with an end-of-shift report from the night shift RN as you start the day shift for client Hilary Jones.
As you work through the clinical application questions in each activity, the goal is to appropriately communicate the presented concerns in the scenario using a rationale rather than identifying a correct answer.
Scenario
Hilary Jones is a 72-year-old obese white female admitted three days ago with a chief complaint of hip pain after falling at home. An ORIF was performed on admission. Mrs. Jones developed a PE on post-op day 2.
